Many people wonder what to expect of the first appointment. For the first session, I ask that clients bring with them the paperwork needed for registration, which can be downloaded from my website. During our phone interview, I will tell you which forms you will need. Additionally, I ask that you bring in a list of things you would like to remember to discuss with me, including the issues you want to address in the therapy.
During that initial session, I will be asking many questions so that I can learn about the background of the issues at hand and learn about you and your history. You will also have the opportunity to ask me questions. This will help you in determining whether or not you feel I am a good fit for you. This is very important for the therapeutic relationship, and when there is a good fit, the therapy is much more effective. If you decide you do not feel comfortable working with me, I will not be offended! Some personalities "click" together, and some do not. So, if the latter is the case, I will be happy to give you names and contact information for some other clinicians who may be a better fit.

I, personally, enjoy the first session a great deal! I begin to learn about you and look forward to helping you resolve the issues that are causing you pain, frustration or keeping you from happiness. One of the true pleasures of my career is hearing people's life stories. As is continually demonstrated to me in my office, the human spirit is amazing!
