Individual Counseling

I greatly enjoy working with individuals and helping them to grow and achieve greater happiness and satisfaction in their lives. I specialize in providing the following:

  • Comprehensive treatment of anxiety incorporating all aspects of the whole person, thereby increasing the effectiveness of therapy.
  • Research based Behavioral Therapy to optimize results for clients who are struggling with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for treatment of individuals dealing with trauma and/or anxiety.
  • Therapy that helps individuals adjust to, and learn from, divorce and other significant life transitions

Couples Counseling

Couples in intimate long term relationships must redefine and reassess their roles and dynamics many times throughout the years in order to maintain a healthy relationship. I help couples, both old and new, learn effective communication tools to improve understanding and intimacy within the relationship. I look at patterns of interacting with each other, learned dynamics from individual upbringings, and individual personalities, when assessing how best to help each unique couple. I also provide pre-marital counseling to help couples learn, in advance, tools that will help them to make their marriage a success.

Family Counseling

Families come in many different shapes and sizes- each of which has its own unique dynamic. I work with families that are adjusting to divorce, including blended families, to improve the functioning of the family system incorporating the unique attributes that each family inherently possesses. Sometimes relationships can become strained between a parent or parents and their children when members of the family go through new and often stressful phases of their lives. I help families to improve or re-establish healthy relationships and learn effective communication skills that nurture both the individuals and the overall family unit.

Counseling for Children & Adolescents

I work with children ages 6-11, focusing specifically on those who are struggling with the divorce of their parents. Counseling can be an anxiety provoking experience for many children, even though they may need a neutral person to talk with about their concerns. Therefore, I incorporate play, sand, and art therapies to help put young clients at ease. I draw on my experience as a former art teacher, to help children find a comfortable means of communication. Additionally, with both children and adolescents, I often involve the parents to teach them more successful parenting techniques that will address their child's specific needs.

I truly enjoy my work with adolescents, ages 12-20, and with this age group, help them with issues ranging from emotional and behavioral struggles, to divorce. I help adolescent girls learn positive ways to interact with peers and family, help them identify their values and understand the consequences of their choices, and educate them in ways to effectively cope with the typical range of adolescent emotions and stress. As a result, I occasionally run girls groups addressing the aforementioned topics, in addition to topics ranging from coping with divorce to self esteem.
